Pictures of the Flood

October 16, 2006

This picture I took from my truck on the road.  Its kind of hard to see, but if you can see the t-post on the right side of the picture and look just to the left, through the small break in the trees...that water, not dirt!

Okay, I took this picture right at the intersection.  I was coming from my house and was starting to turn onto the road to go to Mom & Dad's house.  The vines to the left of the picture is the first light pole, then you see the second pole, that's about midway from the mailboxes to the bridge.  And the next pole is maybe 15-20 feet on the other side of the bridge.  The water went about 8 foot past the pole!!!  Right in the middle of the flood, the depth was maybe 3 1/2 feet deep!!

In this picture I'm, obviously, in my truck.  This is the left side view looking toward my Great Uncle Marion Dale's house.  The post holding the fence up just to the left of my truck mirror...the bush just above the rail and to the left is the driveway going to his house, just to the left is the pond...the very full pond!

Still in the same spot, I just moved the camera over to the straight shot view.  The little bend of ground at the bottom, left of the picture is the bend going onto the driveway to Uncle Marion Dale's house.  You can see the road going straight ahead and the tree that looks like its in the middle of the road is actually quite a ways down the road.  The water was so high!

Okay, I had to pull into a driveway (right across the road from Uncle Marion Dale's driveway) to get this shot.  You can see how high the water got!!

You really can't see it good, but in Jarom's left hand (your right side), there is a baby catfish!  Its head is where Jarom's hands meet and the tail is going toward his left hand's thumb (your right )  If you pass the bridge and go straight (The Dead End Road is what we call it) the whole road was in about 1 1/2 to 2 feet in water and we found so many baby catfish swimming in it!

This is around the last bend of the Dead End Road, where most of the water traffic was going.  Erosion really hit it good this time.  You really can't tell how deep the whole is, but right where the big ripples are, its about 3 fet deep (this is after the water came down a great deal and you could actually drive on a semi-dry road).  Water was still spilling from the other over-grown pond, but it hadn't rained in a day or two.

Jarom is actually standing on what we think is the main water line going down to the two homes at the end of the road.  If he stands on the bottom, the water would come up above his knees!!!!

And there you go...

Till Next Time~
